WORKING WITH ME

Working With Me

Every voiceover adventure begins in the same place: your script. No script, no microphone magic. Once that’s in hand, I’ll need a few essentials—what the piece is, how long it runs, what it’s meant to achieve, and where it’s heading out into the world. A television commercial behaves very differently from an internal training video, and social media has its own personality entirely.

These details help determine the kind of voice the project needs. Is this reassuring expert territory? Cheerful guide? Calm authority? Mischievous narrator who sounds like they’ve read the small print? Matching the delivery to the audience and purpose is what makes the difference between “pleasant audio” and “effective communication.”

They also affect pricing. Not all voiceover uses live the same life. E-learning and telephony tend to settle down somewhere sensible and stay there. Broadcast commercials, on the other hand, like to travel widely and be heard by everyone’s aunt.

Most recordings take place in my broadcast-quality home studio - self direction runs smoothly when you provide a clear plan. If you prefer to steer the session yourself, you’re welcome to join live via Skype, Zoom, CleanFeed, ipDTL, or similar. I record a backup at my end as standard—because technology occasionally enjoys surprises.

If you have particular file formats in mind, just say the word. If you’d like an engineer present during the session, that can be arranged. And if you’d rather direct things face-to-face, I’m very happy to travel to studios in London or across the South West.

VOICEOVER RATES – HOW MUCH DOES A VOICEOVER COST?

Voiceover pricing generally has two main ingredients. First, there’s the recording session itself (sometimes called the BSF—basic session fee). Then, depending on where and how the recording will be used, there may be a usage licence covering its distribution and duration. A training module used internally behaves very differently from a nationwide advertising campaign with ambitions.

All recordings are delivered edited for clarity, timing and cleanliness, ready for your engineer to drop straight into the mix—no archaeological excavation required afterwards.

Quotes include up to two takes for remotely self-directed sessions, plus small revisions within 14 days of the original recording. Larger script changes—or rediscovering an entirely new paragraph two weeks later—may require a fresh booking fee.

As a voice artist, I retain rights to the recordings themselves. Licensing usage is usually the most efficient approach for everyone involved. Full buyouts are possible, though they can still come with practical limits depending on usage.
